Picnic Point is the most well know of the lookouts around Toowoomba being on the edge of the residential area and overlooking the climb up the Toowoomba Range (main image). It has extensive picnic and playground areas and a cafe/restaurant/bar with views out to the Lockyer Valley below. At the edge of the escarpment is the waterfall created many years ago at the site of the original lookout.

Perhaps less known by visitors is the 5km walk down over the edge and back up again made up of the Fantail Walk at the Eastern end and the FIretail Walk at the Western with the Pardalote Walk along the top completing the loop. These images follow the walk in that anti-clockwise direction which is the easiest way to traverse the descent and climb back. There is an extensive range of birdlife in here but very difficult to clearly view with the intense vegetation; the Firetail section is named for the bird which inhabits this part of the Great Dividing Range with its distinctive red highlights.
