Sept. 6, 2015 (Sunday)

Left Maryborough this morning having booked/paid for 4 nights at the Kalpowar Forest campground for Tuesday on.

Apple Tree Creek Rest Area

Tonight at Apple Tree Creek Rest Area, alongside highway but lots of space, shade trees, good toilets and not much noise.

Sept. 8 (Tuesday)

Gin Gin North Rest Area

Last night at Gin Gin North rest area, huge area with about 30 vans overnight and nowhere near crowded; 2 toilet blocks, water (need security handle) and lots of space and choice. Topped up groceries at the IGA before setting up camp and then went back to the Dump Point his morning to empty toilet tank and fill up water tanks. Filler cap on the water tank wouldn’t take the key all the way in so had to prise it off and fix it later to work without the key from now on.

Travelled on today to Kalpowar via Kalpowar Road from Bruce Hwy, a road marked as you turn in “This Road is Not Suitable for Cars towing Caravans” ?! As it turned out that’s because there are a couple of very steep sections on a stony surface (most of this road (45km) is rock or gravel. These steep sections would give a 2wd vehicle a bit of a grip problem.

Kalpowar Forest Campground003-2015-09-09Kalpowar has 2 other couples when we arrived (caravan and camper trailer) so lots of space (Forestry website rates it as 200 people capacity. Basically a rectangular mowed area with scattered shade trees, large picnic shelter and pit toilet. Some tank water but very brown, OK for hand washing etc.

Creek nearby has little water at present but there are some short walk opportunities on the few tracks in and out of here.Kalpowar Forest Campground010-2015-09-10
