Wanting to revisit Darwin before finally heading Southwards we returned to the Malaplains bush retreat, this time finding it empty on our arrival, unlike our last visit when it was almost full every day. We ended up here for 10 days and did three trips into Darwin for both sightseeing and shopping. We were greeted a couple of mornings with a foggy start to the day
One trip into Darwin was to coincide with the holding of the annual Beer Can Regatta at Mindil Beach; Keith was at the very first of these in 1974 and since then it has become (disappointingly) more of a family fun day for the children. Still some great efforts at making boats from cans and bottles though as these pictures show. We didn’t stay around for the “races” but went off to pursue some small shopping tasks on the way home.
